 Abstract:  Cantor Maurice Handel was an active cantor in the United States for more than 35 years. He officiated at Jewish congregations in Los Angeles, New York and St. Paul. The collection contains 5,000 hand-written manuscripts of liturgical music which he had collected over the course of 60 years and donated to the Philip and Sarah Belz School of Jewish Music at Yeshiva University in 1989.

 Abstract:  Congregations Beth Hillel and Beth Israel of Washington Heights, both of German-Jewish origin, merged in 1980. Beth Hillel, founded in 1939, had been a Conservative congregation, while Congregation Beth Israel had been established in 1949 under Orthodox auspices. The collection contains bulletins, newsletters, correspondence, dinner journals and other printed material relating to Congregation Beth Hillel & Beth Israel.
